Beliefs

Bible

The Bible is Word of God given to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.  It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living both as individuals and as a Church. (Psalm 12:6; 119:105, 160 / Proverbs 30:5 / John 16:12-15 / 1 Corinthians 2:12-16; 2 Timothy 1:13; 3:14-17 / 2 Peter 1:19-21)

Church

The Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit and exists to share the good news of new life in Jesus Christ to a broken and hurting world, to teach his followers to obey his teachings, and to equip his followers for ministry. We believe there is one true church, universal, comprised of all those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Each person who becomes a follower of Christ has a need and responsibility to commit to a specific congregation. Each of us comes to Christ personally but not privately. We are called to belong to a community for support, nurturing, accountability, and ministry. The New Testament clearly instructs all Christians to participate in the life and service of a church family. (Matthew 28:19-20 / Acts 2:36-47 / Romans 12:10 / 1 Corinthians 12:4-27 / Galatians 6:1-10 / Ephesians 4:1-16)

God

There is one true, holy and just God, expressing Himself in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of deity and characteristics of personality. God has always existed and will always exist. In the beginning God created out of nothing the world and everything in it, and from that beginning He has been relentlessly desiring and pursuing a personal, intimate, and eternal relationship with us, His children. God loves the people of the world so much that He has revealed Himself to us and offered reconciliation to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. (Genesis 1 / Deuteronomy 6:4 / John 1:1; 3:16; 14:9, 16-20 / Acts 17:24-28 /Hebrews 11:3 / James 1:17)

Jesus

Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary. He is both fully human and fully divine. He lived a sinless human life, made the lame to walk, healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended into Heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father, and He will return to earth to judge both the living and the dead.  Through Jesus we have been forgiven, and reconciled to God. (Isaiah 9:6 / Matthew 1:18-23; 16:13-18 / Luke 1:26-38; 22:69 – 24:8 / John 1:1-14; 3:16; 14:1-30 / Acts 1:1-11; 10:39-42 / Romans 1:3-4; 5:1-11 / 1 Corinthians 15: 1-8 / Colossians 2:9; 3:1 / 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 / Hebrews 4:14-16 / 1 Peter 4:5 / 1 John 4:9)

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is present in the world to make us aware of our need for Jesus Christ. When we are baptized into Christ, God gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit who guides, equips, directs and empowers us to live boldly for Christ. We seek to live under His control daily. (John 14:16-17; 16:5-15; Acts 1:7-8; 2:1-39 / Romans 8:26-27 / 1 Corinthians 2:12-16; 6:19 / 2 Corinthians 3:17 / Galatians 5:22-25 / Ephesians 1:13-14)

Salvation

People are made in the spiritual image of God to be like him in character and to exist with Him forever. We are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although we have tremendous potential for good, we are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. This attitude separates people from God and there is nothing we can do on our own to restore this relationship.  However, forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available only by the grace of God to those who put their faith in Jesus Christ. Those accepting Christ should repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized. Baptism illustrates how God raises us to new life in Christ while cleansing us from sin. The promised Holy Spirit marks our acceptance into God’s family and continues the work of transformation as we seek to follow the example of Christ. After accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, God intends for us to grow in maturity through the knowledge of His Word and the application of its teaching. We are called to carry on the ministry of Jesus, using our talents, resources, and abilities for the purpose of communicating God’s love and saving work to all people everywhere.  We were created to exist with God forever. We will either exist in Hell, eternally separated from God by sin, or in Heaven with God through faith in Christ. Jesus will return at a time known only to God to judge all people. (Genesis 1:27, 31; 2:9-17; 3:1-19 / Isaiah 53:6; 59:1-2 / Matthew 10:32-33 /Luke 24:45-49 / John 1:10-13; 3:16; 14:6 / Acts 2:38; 3:19; 4:12 / Romans 3:22-24; 5:1-2, 9; 6:1-7, 23; 10:9 / Galatians 3:26-27 / Ephesians 2:1-10 /Colossians 2:9-12 / Titus 3:3-7 / 1 Peter 1:18-23; 3:21-4:2 / 2 Peter 3:9 / 1 John 1:7; 4:15; 5:11-13)
